Going through my camera roll…..
Thought I’d just work backwards through my phone camera roll until I run out of space….
Today we had some friends over for lunch - it was very impromptu because they had to pick up something from us. Luckily I had already had plans to make bread and pizza, so it was pretty easy. The pizzas were amazing - they just about always are, but I’m nearly out of salami. The weather hasn’t turned cold enough so I haven’t been game enough to start the salami. I often get warm days in the middle of the drying time, but it doesn’t seem to be right to start when it’s still fairly warm. Next week, I have it penciled in to make them, so we’ll see how we go and if it gets cooler.
My friend is a science teacher and apparently this is a crab spider…..it’s tiny and cute.
I was lucky enough to find another cured pork fillet. It’s a really good one! This is 12 months old and you wouldn’t know it when you open the pack, it tastes as good now as it did when I packed it away.
Pizza in the making - I did some whole grain (emmer) and some spelt flour in this dough - a sourdough one to try as I had plenty of starter. I keep the pizzas pretty simple. We had a salad with it and our friends brought chocolate muffins for dessert!
We call this bird cattle egrets. They hand around the cattle performing a bug eating service for them. The cow is a drackensburger jersey cross and she’s a darling! The bull behind her is a red poll. They’ll have cute babies…..
Spices and tea from my friend and “neighbour” Lisa McLean The Cooking Naturpath. She writes on substack and is well worth following, so click on Lisa’s name for her substack and if you want to check out her range of spices and teas, click on the web link. I can’t wait to cook curry this week!
I’m trying to encourage my niece to cook her own bread, so I made her a loaf using the overnight yeast bread recipe, which I shared here. This was mixed, put in the fridge over night, shaped and put in a cold oven to warm as the oven heated up. Khorasan flour. Bread making doesn’t get much easier.
Kim found some mushrooms. They were all abit old, so I decided to dehydrate them. I love to have them in the cupboard to add to cooking.
A delicious salad I made. Salad greens and herbs from the garden, home grown pumpkin roasted, macadamaia nuts roasted, avocado, home grown by Shell, feta made by me.
Oven baked sausages with tomato and onion.
Kim and the dogs putting up a frame for my passionfruit. This is one that Sam threw out years ago - the only one that I’ve seen that grew from the many passionfruit he threw out.
My babies have grown up! I hatched these chickens a while ago and they’ve just started laying. Lucky, because the older chooks are being very slack!
Last photo, as I have run out of space - most of you only read the email so I need to stop now. Coconut Chicken - easy and delicious - recipe for paid subscribers below.
